What Damages are Covered?

Regarding Motor Car insurance policies, you're probably wondering what are the grounds so that my claim would be considered valid.

The following paragraphs enumerate some of the damages covered and not covered*:

Damages due to the following are COVERED: a) accidental collision or overturning b) fire, external explosion, self-ignition c) lightning d) burglary, housebreaking or theft e) malicious acts other than those caused by the insured, a member of his family or person in his service.

Damages due to the following are NOT COVERED: a) Consequential losses such as car rental and other transportation expenses. b) Depreciation and wear and tear. c) Mechanical or electrical breakdowns (although accidents consequent upon mechanical or electrical breakdowns, i.e. faulty breaks, are covered). d) Damage to tires unless in connection with an accident involving the vehicle. e) Malicious damage caused by the insured, any member of his family or person in the insured’s service. f) Damages not due to the perils insured against.

Additional notes:
Coverage continues during transit by land, inland waterway, lift or elevator. Coverage does not extend to transit by inter-island vessels navigating on open seas or by aircraft.

The vehicle continues to be covered while being towed provided the damage is due to the causes listed above (Item 1). Note that collision damage should be accidental. Thus, if the damage is due to improper towing this cannot be considered accidental.

Hope this helps you understand more about car insurance.
